BMES Background and History Our training organisation, Business and Medical English Services (BMES) was founded by Ian Badger in 1985 specifically to develop English language skills in the engineering and paper industries and for the medical professions. Since that time BMES has worked continuously with major international companies to develop the language skills needed in a changing global business environment. Principal clients are UPM-Kymmene, Metso Paper, Vattenfall and Peterson Packaging. In the medical field, BMES has been involved in major projects in the UK, Hungary and Kazakhstan. BMES trainers have experience of visiting many mills, factories and sales offices and regularly run training courses for business learners in Europe. They have specific experience of working in Finland, Sweden, Germany, Estonia, Russia and the UK. Ian Badger is the author of 'English for Business Life' (Marshall Cavendish) and series editor/author of the 'English for Work' series (Pearson/Longman). These materials are used globally for the teaching of business and technical English. Ian is a regular presenter at international conferences and runs workshops on how to develop language skills within international companies. He has given presentations and workshops in countries including Algeria, Austria, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Portugal, Poland, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand and the UK. Topics include: 'The changing world of business English', 'Working in English in international teams', 'Blending self study and face-to-face training in business English'.
